Dr. U Chandrasekhar

3D Program Director

Dr. U. Chandrasekhar, Program Director AddWize Wipro 3D Bangalore is a researcher, administrator and keen practitioner of additive manufacturing (3D Printing). He has 35 plus years of experience in mechanical analysis, experimental stress analysis and additive manufacturing. He led ESCI, Hyderabad as the Director and Vel Tech University as Pro Vice Chancellor prior to the current job at Wipro 3D.

He received his graduation (NIT, Suratkal) and post-graduation degrees (IIT Chennai) in Mechanical Engineering. He received PhD from VTU for his research in additive manufacturing of photopolymers carried out at DRDO. He has advanced diploma in management. His areas of research include mechanical analysis of aero gas turbine engine modules, additive manufacturing, micro aerial vehicles and sensors for harsh environments. He received a Gold Medal from the former President of India Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam for hisacademic achievements. After serving the Ministry of Defence in several capacities, he rose to the position of Additional Director, DRDO in 2010.
He set up the country’s first-ever 3D Printing laboratory at GTRE, Bangalore in 1997. In his tenure at DRDO, he carried out several technology development projects and also led a senior group of scientists atMoscow during the testing phase of a developmental aero gas turbine engine. He received commendation medal from the Scientific Advisor to the Defence Minister in recognition of his contributions to rapid prototyping of complex aeronautical systems. He has been invited as a keynote speaker by several international fora and he serves on the editorial board of International Scientific Journals (Springer and Emerald Publications).

He serves on the Academic Sub-Committee of the National Board of Accreditation for fostering outcome based education. He is also the current Vice Chairman of NAFEMS, UK’s India chapter.

He currently promotes Industry-Institute collaborations in metal additive manufacturing through the AddWize program of Wipro3D “wipro-3d.com/addwize/addwize-academia/”
