CEO & Co-Founder at SpeedFit
Matej Varhalik is the co-founder and CEO of SpeedFit, a revolutionary fitness business at the forefront of electronic muscle stimulation (EMS) training technology.
The Slovakian-born, Perth-based entrepreneur was studying fitness in Australia when he identified an opportunity to introduce the low-impact, high-intensity training technology he had grown to love in Europe as a remedial solution for his back issues. As a businessman and new father, Matej also created SpeedFit out of personal frustration as he did not have the time to squeeze multiple gym sessions into his busy week.
In just seven years, and with English as his second language, Matej has built a growing franchise in Australia. In 2017, he appeared on Shark Tank and fielded an nvestment offer from Boost Juice founder Janine Allis but declined both and instead backed himself. Now, Matej is at the helm of a 22-studio strong franchise spanning from Perth, to Sydney and Melbourne during the COVID-19 lockdown period. As at December 2020 he has grown the business to 22 studios across Perth, Sydney and Melbourne with 72% YoY average growth for the past six years. Matej is firmly focused on growth and transforming the fitness industry, making this quick and easy service accessible to as many Australians as possible, and with plans to expand the brand further across the east coast of Australia in 2021.
Matej is also passionate about giving back to the community and has initiated several company led, fundraising activities including raising more than $10,000 for the Starlight Foundation and almost $8,000 for bushfire relief during the 2019/20 summer.
