Dato’ Azlikamil Napiah, Director General of the Malaysian Space Agency (MYSA), outlines Malaysia’s rapid progress in space technology and its growing role within the regional space economy. He highlighted the expansion of Malaysia’s downstream, midstream and upstream space activities, noting that between 2017 and 2023, 79 local companies have entered the sector, making a significant contribution to national economic growth.

Dato’ Azlikamil also discussed Malaysia’s plans to strengthen national capabilities through major infrastructure development, including the proposed Space City in Pahang state. The project is expected to lift Malaysia’s GDP by around one per cent, representing an estimated 10 billion ringgit in economic impact.

Regional cooperation was a key theme, with Malaysia actively supporting closer collaboration across ASEAN. Six ASEAN member states are now engaged in space technology initiatives, with a shared objective of building a coordinated and sustainable regional space ecosystem.

Dato’ Azlikamil will be speaking on Day 2 of the Singapore Space Summit – ‘Space for Everyone, Everyday: How Space Impacts Daily Lives in Southeast Asia’ – for more information visit https://spacesummit.singaporeairshow….
