The Andy Thomas Space Foundation has announced the first Keynote Speaker for the 15th Space Forum in Adelaide in May.

Dr. Masaki Fujimoto, Deputy Director General of the Institute of Space and Astronautical Sciences of Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (ISAS/JAXA) obtained a Ph.D. of Science from University of Tokyo, Japan, in 1992. His research interests include planetary science, with focus on the origin and the formation process of planetary systems. He had been Director of Department of Solar System Sciences and Science Director of ISAS before he was appointed for the current position in April 2018.

A significant JAXA delegation will participate in the 15th Australian Space Forum, continuing to build the strong relationship between Australia and Japan.

Dr Masaki Fujimoto from JAXA will provide a keynote address on the JAXA MXX (Martian Moons eXploration) mission. Australia has partnered with Japan on an innovative new mission to Mars. The JAXA MMX spacecraft will land on Phobos, one of the moons of Mars, to collect samples which might hold the key to unlock further information about the birth of our solar system. The craft will complete its mission and return to land in Woomera, South Australia with its precious samples in 2029.
