At DefSat 2026 in New Delhi, we speak with Venkat Pillay, CEO and Founder of LatConnect60 (LC60), about the company’s expansion into India and the growing Australia–India space partnership.

Fresh from establishing a new Indian office, LC60 is working with Skyroot Aerospace to launch one of its upcoming satellites from India in early 2027. The satellite is being built in Australia with Gilmour Space Technologies, marking a significant cross-border collaboration across the Indo-Pacific.

We also cover LC60’s SWIR (short-wave infrared) “SWIRSAT” constellation and its expansion plans, leveraging India’s fast-growing private space ecosystem for manufacturing and infrastructure.

The Water and Soil Monitoring Initiative (WASMI) and its relevance to India’s agricultural sector with integrating multi-source Earth observation data with generative AI for actionable geospatial insights. There is also opportunity for maritime domain awareness, early warning systems and defence applications.

With operations spanning Australia, Malaysia, Dubai, the United States and now India, LC60 is positioning itself at the centre of Indo-Pacific space cooperation.
