Official Welcome from Professor Anna Moore, the Australian National University’s (ANU) Vice Chancellor’s Entrepreneurial Professor and Director of ANU Institute for Space the multi-disciplinary initiative spearheaded by Moore in 2018, harnessing the University’s diverse space capability under one central institute. She is a distinguished researcher, a world-leading expert in astronomical instrumentation and translation, and a global leader in the emerging field of transient infrared astronomy.

Professor Moore was instrumental in the formation of the Australian Space Agency, as part of the Australian Government’s expert reference group. InSpace was awarded Academic Institute of the year 2023 and Anna was awarded Female Leader of the Year at the Australian Space Awards (2021), and Top 100 Women of Influence by the Australian Financial Review (2019). Over her career, Moore has raised over $150 million in funding across 29 manufacturing projects, delivered to major observatories across the world. Anna is an inspirational role model to many women and is ensuring women thrive in the traditionally male-dominated STEM workforce.

Professor Tracy Smart AO, Air Vice-Marshal (Ret’d) BMBS, MPH, MA, Dip AvMed, FRACMA, FACAsM, FAsMA, FCDSS, FACHSM (Hon) is a medical doctor, health leader, aerospace medicine specialist, and retired Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) senior officer. She was the third woman to reach the rank of Air Vice Marshal in the RAAF. She is currently Professor, Military and Aerospace Medicine at the Australian National University (ANU), a Mission Specialist in Space Medicine at the ANU Institute for Space (InSpace), and was ANU’s COVID-19 Public Health Lead from August 2020 to March 2022.

Professor Smart is a Fellow of the Aerospace Medicine Association in the US, an Academician of the International Academy of Aviation and Space Medicine, and a graduate of the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. She is a regular keynote speaker in the areas of leadership, mental health, public health, cultural change, and diversity.

Professor Gordon Cable is a specialist in aerospace medicine. He has been a consultant to the Royal Australian Air Force since 1996 and provides aerospace medical expertise to the aerospace industry through his private consulting firm Human Aerospace Pty Ltd. He is an honorary life member of the Australasian Society of Aerospace Medicine, as well as Chair of the Space Life Sciences Committee. He holds Fellowships with the Australasian College of Aerospace Medicine, the Aerospace Medical Association, the Royal Aeronautical Society, and the International Academy of Aviation and Space Medicine.

Professor Cable is a Clinical Associate Professor in the School of Medicine at the University of Adelaide and the author of many scientific publications. His professional interests include altitude physiology of hypoxia and hypobaric decompression illness, hypoxia awareness training of military and civilian aircrew, space medicine, and postgraduate education in aerospace medicine for medical professionals. In March 2023 he joined the Australian National University as Honorary Professor in the Practice of Space Medicine.

Associate Professor David Kim, PhD is an Honorary Lecturer in the School of History, College of Arts and Social Sciences at the Australian National University (ANU) in Canberra. He is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society (RHistS), United Kingdom, a Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society (RAS), United Kingdom, Chair for ANU Religion Conference Committee, and the Chair for the National Association of Foreign Scholars in Korea (NAFSIK).

David is an Honorary Lecturer in the School of History and Research School of Social Sciences (RSSS) at ANU, Mission Specialist for the ANU Institute for Space (InSpace), Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, and Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society, United Kingdom.

Dr Ben Bramble, ANU College of Science | Dr Ben Bramble received his PhD from the University of Sydney in 2014. He then held postdoctoral positions at the University of Vienna and Lund University Sweden. In 2016, he was appointed as Assistant Professor at Trinity College Dublin. In 2018, he was appointed as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Liverpool. In 2019, he was a Laurance S. Rockefeller Visiting Faculty Fellow at Princeton University. He is currently Lecturer in the School of Philosophy at the Australian National University.
