About D2L
D2L (Desire2Learn) was founded in 1999 by John Baker. At the time, his engineering class was being challenged to look at the world in new ways by coming up with questions that no one had asked before.
John realized that despite all the change technology was driving in the world, his University campus seemed almost untouched by that momentum. The question he wanted to ask was clear: how could we use technology to dramatically transform learning?
He’s come to believe that one of the most important things we can do to help each other is to ensure that everyone has access to the best possible learning opportunities. Today, D2L is working with customers around the world to help learners at a scale that was hard to imagine in 1999.
At D2L, they see their user base as partners rather than customers, and have built a caring community of peers across all learning environments. They pride themselves on being more than just an LMS vendor, and go the extra mile to help our partners get the most out of the Brightspace learning management system.
D2L provide a whole host of support for partners with the core goal of maximising engagement with their learners. With creative services and consultations, you can rely on experts to help build world-class offerings and content that resonates with your learners.
About Tony Maguire
Tony Maguire is a veteran of the education and technology industries with more than 20 years’ experience in consulting and collaborating with local and internationally-recognised educators, government ministers, and industry leaders.
Having joined D2L in July 2020, Maguire is responsible for leading the company’s Australia and New Zealand team as it helps schools, universities, and businesses adapt to the changing societal and economic needs that require students and employees to learn remotely – changes that have been rapidly accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
After 15 years as a teacher in several public and independent schools, Maguire elected to expand and deepen his skillsets with a move to the corporate sector. The shift saw him take on senior roles with EdTech vendors including Apple’s K-12 business in Queensland, Northern Territory, Victoria and Tasmania, and Oracle’s A/NZ higher education consulting services arm.
During his time as an independent EdTech consultant, Maguire worked with local and international institutions including RMIT, UTS, University of Sydney, Western Sydney University, Arizona State, and University of Pennsylvania on their migration journeys to software-as-a-service (SaaS) platforms.
